Val-Dieu Blonde
On departure from Val-Dieu Abbey – the monastery of Cistercian monks that was founded around 1215 – you will follow the Berwinne. This river, which flows between Liège and Maastricht, is a hard-water river with its source a few kilometers from here in Aubel. You will then pass through Houillère forest, which was named in tribute to coal, the abundant mineral wealth to which the Liège basin owes its reputation—as well as its prosperity—for centuries. To get a clearer taste of the region’s pleasures, after passing through Charneux, you will head to the Abbey, which houses… a brewery.
