Val-Dieu Brune
The cycle ride starts at Val-Dieu Abbey, a monastery of Cistercian monks located in Aubel in Pays de Herve, which was founded around 1215. After a first section full of greenery, you will head towards Battice and its fort, which were built between 1934 and 1937 and are also open to visitors. You will then arrive in the village of Thimister, where the first Belgian soldier died during World War I: Antoine Fonck. You will finally begin the last part of the walk passing next to the Croix de Charneux which offers a beautiful panorama of the Pays de Herve region before going back down towards the Abbey where you will have the opportunity to taste the beers brewed on site.
